You many have read the description of the three macaroni craft books from the 1960's on my home page. Below you will find three projects from both the "Deck-A-Roni Designs" (Delmonico) and "Decorating with Macaroni Craft Book" (Aleene). Not all of the directions were printed in the original craft books. I have notated where this occurs and have added what I believe would have been intended. These projects would be great for the whole family. Adult supervision is recommended for all projects.
Below are three projects from the Delmonico macaroni craft book. Deck-A-Roni® Doorbells (photo below) Materials: Bell-shaped top sections of 2 plastic bottles (such as quart bleach bottles), white glue, 3 to 4 feet of 2” wide red ribbon, green spray paint, 2 feet of fine wire, 2 shiny tree ornaments, pipe cleaners, and Delmonic Elbow macaroni, Jumbo Shells, Small Shells, and Rotini. 1. Cut top sections off bottles with scissors. Punch small hole near the top for the wire. 2. Glue Jumbo Shells around the bottom edge; then add a row of Rotini. 3. Glue assorted macaroni shapes all over the rest of the bells. Put a row of Rotini around the top edge. 4. Spray green and a shiny tree ornament on a pipe cleaner for the clapper. Fashion ribbon into large bow and wire tops of bells to it. A Gay [Happy] Candle Wreath (photo above) Materials: Styrafoam wreath; white glue; green red and gold spray paint; white candles; and Delmonico Jumbo Shells, Small Shells, Egg Dumplings, Dipsy Doodle Noodles, Elbow Macaroni, Rotini and Mastoccioli. 1. Make 1/2” deep hole in styrafoam wreath for each candle. Build up a candle holder for each candle out of Dipsy Doodle Noodles. 2. Decorate sides and top of wreath by bluing on Mastaccioli, Dipsy Doodle Noodles, Elbow Macaroni, Rotini and Egg Dumplings, as show in the illustration. 3. Spray with green and when dry, spatter spray lightly with gold paint. 4. Spray both sizes of shells separately with red and them around top and sides. Deck-A-Roni Picture Frame (photo above) Materials: Wood picture frame of size desired, gold spray paint, white glue and Delmonico Shells, Egg Dumplings and Rotini. 1. Glue Shells, Dumplings and Rotini on frame as shown in illustration. 2. Spray with gold. Below you will find more information about the Delmonico company. | Below are three projects from the Aleene macaroni craft book. Tree Plaque (photo above) Materials Needed – Pyramid Tree Plaque - 1 sheet White Foam 1/2” x12” x24” - 1/2 White Foam Pyramid Tree 5”x16” - 1/2 White Foam Base - Macaroni, 4 types - Barley - 1 can All Purpose Floral/Craft Spray Paint - 2 yds. Rick Rack, Gold - 1 package Pearl Snowflakes - Tacky White Craft Glue - 1 piece Velour Paper – Background - 1 Chenille Stem – Assembly Lay velour paper on large White Foam sheet, bringing edges around in back. Pin and glue to hold. Fasten tree to base with glue and 1 inch pieces of chenille stem. Glue macaroni to tree. Make any design desired. Shown is a flower design of Farfalle (bow shaped) macaroni with stems of Ditali macaroni. The tree is edged with Rotelle (spiral shaped) macaroni. A few Maruzzelle (shell) macaroni are spotted around and the remaining area filled in with barley. The entire tree is sprayed with special formula white paint (especially made for White Foam). Highlight your tree with touches of gold paint brushed on. When dry, fasten tree to plaque with glue and 1 inch pieces of chenille stem. Pin rickrack braid around edges. Tapered Tree (photo above) Materials Needed – Marconi Tree - 1 White Foam Tree “Taper Tree Form” 16” tall - 1 White Foam Pedestal Base 4” tall x 5” diam. X 4” diam. Bottom - 1 can All Purpose Floral/Craft Spray Paint, any color desired - 1 jar Tacky White Craft Glue - 1 pack Wooden Picks - 1 Bead String 12mm x 9 ft. long - 1 Bead String 6.5mm x 9 ft. long - 1 box Corsage Pins – Pear shaped head - Macaroni – Different types, see picture Procedure: Fasten small end of base to bottom of foam tree with wooded picks that have been dipped I glue. Put glue on base before fastening to tree. Glue macaroni onto tree in any design desired or follow design in picture. It would be advisable to paint macaroni all over before gluing to tree. This helps to prevent bugs from eating holes in macaroni after tree is finished. When glue is set, paint tree. Let dry. Decorate with corsage pins and beads. You may use pearls and jewels or old pieced of jewelry you might have around the house. Flat Tree (photo above) Materials Needed – Flat Macaroni Tree - White Foam Sheet, 3/4” x 9” x 16” – Tree - White Foam Disc, 1 1/2” x 5” diam. – Base - 3 yds. Velvet Ribbon, Red - 1/2 doz. Stemmed Christmas Balls, 30mm, Gold - 1 pack Wooden Picks - Pins - Pearl Barley - 4 Different Kinds of Macaroni - 1 can All Purpose Floral/Craft Spray Pint, Gold (made for White Foam) - 1 package Fine Non-Tarnish Glitter, Gold Procedure: Trace a pattern, lay on White Foam, and cut out with a sharp knife or a hot wire. Cut tear drops 2 1/2 inches long. Fasten tree upright to base with glue and wooded picks. Glue on macaroni in desired pattern or follow pattern in the picture. Glue pearl barley in between macaroni to fill space. Spray paint. Sprinkle on glitter while paint is still wet. Let dry. Glue ribbon to inside edge of teardrops and pin to lengths around base.
